šŸ’¼ Doctorpreneurs: Dr Brendan O'Brien šŸ§

What organisation / startup did you found?

I founded the Creative Thinking Institute in September 2019, a mobile and web-based healthcare platform, using wearable technology partnered with innovative psychometrics.

What is its noble purpose? To provide patients with a mobile real-time portal for their mental and physical health, connected to their own practitioners if and only if they activate and / or consent.

Tell us about the first 10 years of your life?

I was born in London to Australian parents, both of whom were medicos. For a time we lived in United Kingdom, followed by San Francisco, before finally coming to Melbourne, Australia at just four years old.

What age were you when you had your first paying job? What was it? At 17 years old I worked weekends as a building labourer for a friend's father.

What made you want to be a Doctor and what specialty did you choose? Why? It was a combination of a passionate interest in science and the human condition. At first I worked in general practice for six years then returned to the hospital and became a Neurosurgeon.

What made you want to be an Entrepreneur or follow an alternative route? When exactly did you decide?

I have had a long-term interest in the latest technology and have always tried to marry this with a desire to help fellow medical colleagues.

I have wanted to help further the digitisation of healthcare with IoT (Internet of Things), 5G, machine learning and AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Are you still practicing as a Doctor now? If yes, do you intend to stop if the organisation or project takes off?

Yes I am still working in medicine, I really enjoy operating just as much as being an entrepreneur.

Why do you think traditionally many Doctors struggle with entrepreneurship? Or at least they are perceived to?

There are probably a number of reasons, including a lack of mentorship, a lack of time, a lack of role models and the difficulty of juggling early start-ups with medical life.

What is your favourite quote?

"Fortune favours the prepared mind".

Louis Pasteur.

What would you do in the event of a Zombie Apocalypse?

Keep doing exactly what I am doing now; Nostradamus has been a fair way off on his predictions of late.
