Flightcare Global.
What is its noble purpose? Technology-based medical assistance platform for the aviation industry.
Tell us about the first 10 years of your life?
It was a very simple childhood, nothing too fascinating other than growing up in suburban Manchester (UK), with parents, my younger brother and a Labdrador.
What age were you when you had your first paying job? What was it? I was just 14 and helping in the family business.
What made you want to be a Doctor and what specialty did you choose? Why? Honestly, it was what you did if you met the grade! I enjoyed my time at medical school and initially trained in Paediatrics and Intensive Care.
What made you want to be an Entrepreneur or follow an alternative route? When exactly did you decide?
I got right to the very end of my training / fellowship year and I believe whilst doing a locum consultant post I realised long-term clinical hospital medicine was not for me.
I looked at Consultants further on in their careers and just did not want to end up there in that same position.
Since then I have spent over 10 years in corporate roles in Aviation Medicine and effectively retrained in this field.
Are you still practicing as a Doctor now? If yes, do you intend to stop if the organisation or project takes off?
Yes, I do a little rural primary care to maintain my skills and also do some pilot medical examinations.
Why do you think traditionally many Doctors struggle with entrepreneurship? Or at least they are perceived to?
A good grasp of medicine and business is essential and doctors often lack the latter. Experience in the corporate world is invaluable as are good mentors (which I am fortunate to have).
What is your favourite quote?
"What would I know!".
What would you do in the event of a Zombie Apocalypse?
Stay in Australia. They seemed to manage COVID pretty well.
