Launch Festival Sydney 2019

LAUNCH Festival was founded by legendary Silicon Valley investor Jason Calacanis.

Much like many of the people I end up following, reading about or listening to, the self-proclaimed “Mr. Capitalism” himself is brash, at times blunt, but always honest. I usually start out detesting them, then 5 podcasts deep this apprehension tends to morph into admiration.

As well as starting Launch.co, an early-stage venture capital firm, he hosts the podcast This Week In Startups and heads up this unique event.

LAUNCH has been running for a decade in Silicon Valley and last year came Down Under to Sydney for the first time. Such was its impact that it returns next month from 17th to 19th June at the SMC Conference and Function Centre in Sydney's CBD.

The event promises to delight with intimate chats and interviews with high-profile founders, startup competitions and demonstrations of the latest tech that we mere mortals will adopt through future unicorn companies.

I will be wearing my Doctology "hat", so although the event covers a range of industries and sectors, I am particularly keen to see the level of representation by startups in health and healthcare.

With a huge personal interest in the reality of startup world, and discussing and dissecting noble failures and challenges, as much as the rare champions, I am counting down the days to the 17th June.
